Clara Blättler reached record heights as a pole vaulter at Brookline High, Harvard University, and whileas a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.

A scientist specializing in geochemistry, Blättler once went the opposite direction — on a ship recovering samples from the Indian Ocean floor. She is now in her first year as an assistant professor at the University of Chicago, where her research includes how our environment has changed over time.

“It’s a fascinating field, one I fell in love with when I took an earth history course at Harvard,’’ said Blättler, a 2016 inductee into Brookline High’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
