Chan Sheng Yao rewrites national pole vault record with 4.91m effort

Pole vaulter Chan Sheng Yao has set a new national record with a 4.91m effort at the Singapore Youth and Junior Championships at Bukit Gombak Stadium on Sunday.

The 18-year-old bettered training partner Sean Lim’s 4.90m mark set last month.

His successful record-breaking attempt has brought relief to Sheng Yao, who was struggling with niggling injuries to the heel and wrist for the past three months.

With his latest result, Sheng Yao, who competed at December’s SEA Games in Myanmar, finally put aside doubts over niggling injuries in the heel and the wrist which has plagued him for the past three months.
