Clackamas’ Connor McLean successfully defends title in pole vault: 6A boys track state championships

EUGENE — Clackamas senior Connor McLean successfully defended his title in the pole vault Friday in the OSAA Class 6A boys track championships at Hayward Field.

The Air Force-bound McLean cleared 15-0 on his opening height and it was good enough to win by a foot over Oregon City senior Kyle Anderson (14-0).

McLean was unable to get into a groove and approach his personal best and state season best of 16-0, which he cleared in four meets this season.

“I wanted the higher heights today, around like 16-5 or a little higher,” McLean said. “My speed was really good today, but I was blowing through poles, and I kept blowing up poles. I just couldn’t get on the right size pole today, and that’s what was holding me back.”
