Owen Oilar had waited four years to win a state title. So he was willing to wait two more days.
Saturday, the Cody senior finally got his long-awaited gold medal, winning the pole vault competition with a vault of 14 feet, 6 inches.
The Class 3A boys pole vault was the last scheduled field event of the first day of the Wyoming State High School Track and Field Championships, beginning at 5 p.m. under threatening skies. However, because of the larger-than-usual field of 24 competitors, there were still a number of vaulters competing when the event was postponed to Friday.
