After building up a 223-point lead heading into the pole vault, Warner appeared to be cruising to a gold medal. Warner had an otherwise strong Day 2 of the decathlon competition, recording a 46.55 in the discus throw and topping all competitors with a 13.89-second 110m hurdles event.
Unfortunately for the Canadian record holder, it appeared as though he had bitten off more than he could chew in the pole vault. Warner’s personal best in the event is a 4.90m set in 2016, and he set the bar at 4.50m to start.
