Commonwealth Games: Steve Lewis wins pole vault gold medal

POLE Vaulter Steve Lewis secured Commonwealth Games gold tonight after a tense jump-off with fellow Englishman Luke Cutts.

The 28-year-old, from Light Oaks, prevailed at Glasgow’s Hampden Park with a successful clearance of 5.55m.

Both Lewis and Cutts had failed three times at 5.60m, which led to the jump-off.

They both couldn’t clear the same height in the winner-takes-all battle, but Lewis held his nerve when the bar was lowered.

Lewis was among the favourties for gold having picked u pa silver medal in Delhi four years ago.

Celebration of Sport Week On Tuesday 27 October, youngsters from across the city will be able to meet Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist and Olympic athlete Steven Lewis at Northwood Stadium.
