Craig Places Third in Pole Vault At ECAC Championship

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Westfield State sophomore Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass.) placed third in the pole vault at the Eastern Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III indoor track & field championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Craig, who ranks 23rd nationally in the event, cleared 3.61 meters (11’8″) in her best jump.

Westfield State track & field athletes also competed in the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet in a last-chance to qualify for the NCAA meet.

Junior Ashley Monahan (Springfield, Mass.) finished 8th in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:17.43, while sophomore Jessie Cardin placed 14th in the 3000-meter run.

On the men’s side, senior Matthew Moussamih (Fall River, Mass.) ran the 800-meter in a time of 1:58.33 to finish 17th. Sophomore Edison Perez (Springfield, Mass.) placed 6th in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing the final in 8.63 seconds after running 8.54 in the preliminaries.

All qualified athletes will compete next weekend in the NCAA meet at Grinnell College in Iowa.
