The University of Cincinnati men’s track & field program opened up the 2014 outdoor season with a strong Day One showing at the Alabama Relays.
Redshirt senior Josh Dangel was the highlight of the meet as he won the pole vault with a clearance of 17’ 4.5”. Junior Colt Robinson snatched sixth in the event with a personal-best height of 15’ 11”.
The Bearcats’ sprint medley relay had a strong showing as they claimed second overall. The foursome of Nick Kowaleski, Nathan Alexander, Darnell Gilbert andEthan Bokeno ran 3:26.94 for their runner-up finish.
Senior Oliver Book posted a personal-best time in the 5,000-meter run while also finishing fifth overall. Book crossed the line at 14:43.80, which topped his previous best time by nearly a second.
The Alabama Relays continue tomorrow morning with the high jump at 2 p.m. and the 4×100-meter relay starting at 2:10 p.m.
The women’s team will also begin their 2014 outdoor season tomorrow at the Black & Gold Challenege in Orlando, Fla.
