PUNTA GORDA – As much as it stung at the time, coming up just short of a state championship last year may have been the best thing for Alexandra Chlumsky.

The Fort Myers High senior pole vaulter now has no reason to rest on her laurels. She remains hungry, infinitely more driven than she was last season, making her dangerous a few weeks from now in Jacksonville.

The Notre Dame signee’s quest to settle unfinished business at state officially began immediately after she stepped down from the podium, one step lower than she hoped, last year at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida. She was laser-focused Tuesday during the Class 3A-District 11 Track and Field Championships as she edged out Charlotte’s Natalie Jen to add another district gold to her collection.
