Dylan Bell Nabs Second MW Athlete of the Week Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior Dylan Bell was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced today (Jan. 20). It is the fourth such career award for the native of Alvarado, Texas.

Bell claimed his second pole vault title of the season last Saturday (Jan. 17), when he cleared 17’5″ to win the seeded event at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Nebraska. Bettering the field by four inches, Bell captured his second win in three meets and paced the Falcons to two of the top-four finishes in the seeded section, as well as a sweep of the men’s titles in the two pole vault events.

Scoring 10 of the team’s 47 points at the Holiday Inn Invitational, the junior led the Falcons to a third-place finish in the overall Division I standings … a placement that trailed only two nationally-ranked teams.

His clearance of 17’5″ is the second-best mark in the conference this season, trailing only the conference-leading 18’0½” that Bell and teammate Joey Uhle recorded during the Air Force Holiday Open.

Bell shared the weekly awards with Utah State’s Nic Bowens (men’s track athlete) and Chari Hawkins (women’s track athlete) and San Diego State’s Bonnie Draxler (women’s field athlete).

The Falcons return to competition this weekend, when they host the 25th Air Force Invitational at the Academy’s Cadet Field House Indoor Track.
