COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force sophomore Dylan Bell was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Feb. 4). It is the second career honor for the native of Alvarado, Texas, who also captured the award as a freshman.
Bell cleared a career-best 17’6½” for the second straight week during a runner-up performance in the pole vault at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Feb. 1. Bell posted the Falcons’ best overall finish of the day, while leading the Air Force pole vaulters to three of the top-five finishes in that event. The sophomore finished ahead of two All-Americans, including one from the 11th-ranked program in the country (Arizona State). Bell’s mark, which is the sixth-best clearance in Academy history, is currently ranked second in the Mountain West and ninth in the NCAA.
Bell was joined on the conference’s list of award winners for Feb. 4 by New Mexico’s Charlotte Arter, who was named the MW Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
The Falcons return to the Academy this weekend for the Air Force Team Challenge with Indiana State, Sacramento State and Wichita State on Friday, Feb. 7.
