Eliza McCartney sends out Commonwealth Games warning with best clearance of 4.90m

Eliza McCartney couldn’t hide her emotions, and nor did she want to as she soared over 4.90 metres for the first time in her life to put a world-class stamp on the Vertical Pursuit pole vault competition’s at Auckland’s SkyCity on Sunday.

New Zealand’s 21-year-old Rio Olympic bronze medallist surprised even herself as she comfortably won the special inner-city pole vault competition with a clearance that comfortably surpassed her previous PB and national record of 4.82m.
