Eric Hunter Third In Pole Vault; Sprint Events Shine At PSAC Championships

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Eric Hunter cleared 15 feet, 2 ¾ inches in the pole vault to finish third overall while West Chester qualified a pair of runners in each of the sprint events to highlight day two of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships inside Seth Grove Stadium Friday afternoon.
 
Alex Foulke and Ricky Bruno each moved on to the finals of both the 100m and 200m dashes while Elias Bogale and Ghassan Dix moved on in the 400m dash as the Golden Rams’ sprinters took center stage Friday. Foulke placed fourth in the prelims of the 100m with a time of 10.94 seconds while Bruno was sixth with a time of 10.98. In the 200m, Bruno placed fifth in 22.36 while Foulke was sixth in 22.38. Bogale finished fifth overall in the 400m prelims, clocking a 48.87 while Dix was eighth in 49.50.
 
Nick Drozd finished second in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 54.10. He also teamed with Foulke, Bruno and Ryan Heimbach in the 4x100m relay that moved on to the finals with a fourth seed overall. That foursome clocked a time of 42.30. Heimbach, and teammate Miles Ransom each moved on to the finals of the 110 high hurdles. Heimbach posted a time of 15.36 to place sixth while Ransom posted a 15.41 to qualify seventh.
 
In the Decathlon, which started on Thursday and was completed Friday, West Chester’s Collin Mascola and Colin Vannicolo were each placewinners. Mascola finished sixth overall with 5,829 points while Vannicolo was eighth with 5,745. Ransom finished 11th with 5,581 points.
 
After the first full day of competition at the 2014 PSAC Championships, host Shippensburg has a comfortable lead with 116 points. Kutztown is second with 53 while Slippery Rock is third with 38 points. West Chester sits 10th overall with 10.5 points. However, the Golden Rams have set themselves up to score plenty of points on Saturday with quite a few student-athletes moving on to the finals.
