Farmington’s Litchfield finishes fifth in 1A pole vault

Farmington Central’s Sarah Litchfield brought home another medal from this year’s IHSA Class 1A State Track and Field Finals Saturday afternoon held at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. The senior finished fifth in the pole vault with an effort of 11-feet. Her five points would put the Lady Farmers in tie for 49th in the team standings. The performance allowed Litchfield to tie Jordan Peckham’s school record with eight medals in state competition. She also placed fifth in last year’s pole vault event with a mark of 10-9. Litchfield was also a part of the medal-winning 4×100-meter, 4×200 and 4×400 relays a year ago. The 4×400 quartet of Litchfield, Haley Huls, Payton Peckham and Jordan Peckham would win the state championship. Farmington would place second as a team with 36 points. As a freshman, Litchfield was part of the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays that all medalled for the Lady Farmers. Sophomore Windsor Roberts of Downs Tri-Valley and sophomore Tori Thomas of Rock Alleman repeated their first and second place finishes in the pole vault Saturday with marks of 12-6 and 12-0 respectively.
