First Olympic Medal for Cuba in Athletics

Cuban female pole vaulter Yarisley Silva got the first Olympic gold medal for Cuba in athletics (track and field) in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Silva was only beaten by US athlete Jennifer Stuhr, who jumped 4.75 meters, just like the Cuban competitor but she got it in her first attempt.

World and Olympic Champion and record woman Elena Isinbayeva got the bronze medal, since she could not go over 4.70 meters.
