Former Elk City vaulter clears NAIA’s third best height of season

Andy Peffer, an Elk City High School graduate and Oklahoma Baptist senior pole vaulter, cleared 16-1.25 at the Herm Wilson Invitation at Wichita State University last weekend and placed third.

That height ranks third in the NAIA to this point in the season, and was good enough to earn Peffer honors for one of two Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 7-13.

OBU took home both honors, as Peffer’s teammate Cordell Baker earned the nod by winning the mile run at the Invitational with a 4:19.02, the fastest so far among NAIA runners this season.

Peffer was recently highlighted in the Daily Elk Citian’s five-part series on the five former Elk City High School athletes currently competing in sports at  OBU.

In an interview for the series, the former ECHS track star said last month his goal is to clear 17 feet during the indoor season.
