Former McDowell pole vault standout Emily Tharpe has been named to the Pennsylvania High School Track and Field Hall of Fame.

She will be inducted March 1 at the Pennsylvania Indoor State Championship Meet at Penn State University.

Tharpe was the 2001 PIAA Class AAA champion after finishing as the state runner-up in 2000 and 1999. She also helped the Trojans to a team state championship in 2001.

She set the PIAA record of 12 feet 3 inches in winning her PIAA title in 2001. Later that year, Tharpe cleared 13-1/4 and placed fourth at the U.S.A. Track and Field Junior Nationals.

Tharpe also was a three-time champion (1999-2001) at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association indoor meet and a two-time champ at the Nike Indoor Nationals (2000, 2001). She set the Pennsylvania indoor record of 12-6 in 2001.
