GASTONIA – Former North Gaston High standout Mariel Finger will enter this weekend’s Big South Conference indoor track championships as one of the favorites in the pole vault.

Finger, a sophomore who graduated from North Gaston in 2014, was last week named conference indoor field athlete of the week after her career-best vault of 12 feet, 9 1-2 inches to win the Liberty Quad title on Feb. 12.

Finger’s vault was the second-highest in Liberty history behind only All-American Andrea Wildrick, who vaulted 14 feet.
