DES MOINES, Iowa — A pair of Norfolk High graduates were scheduled to compete at the USA outdoor track and field championships here Friday.
Jeremy Scott qualified for the meet in the pole vault, and Jared Schuurmans reached the event in the discus.
Scott, a 1999 Norfolk grad, is one of 16 competitors in the pole vault. The 2012 Olympian enters the meet with the seventh-best qualifying mark at 5.6 meters. American record holder and 2006 world champion Brad Walker has the top qualifying mark in the event at 5.83 meters.
The pole vault was scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Friday evening.
In the discus, Schuurmans is one of 17 competitors. The 2006 Norfolk High graduate has the sixth-best qualifying mark at 62.89 meters. Lance Brooks, a 2012 Olympian, owns the top qualifying mark at 65.15 meters.
The discus was set for a 6:30 p.m. start time.

The top three placers in each event qualify for the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships in Moscow, Russia, in August.
