Gabrisch was a member of the UTSA track & field program in 2008-11 and competed in the pole vault, helping the Roadrunners several conference championships during his career. He made his collegiate debut by clearing 4.90 meters (16-0.75 for an 11th-place finish at the UNM Cherry & Silver Invitational, a mark that still ranks him fifth on the program’s all-time indoors performers list. He cleared that same height outdoors in a runner-up showing at the Trinity Alumni Classic on April 10, 2010, and he posted a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.

Gabrisch was a native of Humble, Texas, and a graduate of Kingwood High School. He was the 2008 Class 5A pole vault silver medalist and a regional champion as a senior in high school.
