G-P alum McWilliams wins pole vault in WAC

PORTLAND — Former Gregory-Portland standout Hannah McWilliams has set the bar high — literally — in her first season at Texas State.

McWilliams won the indoor pole vault title at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Meet last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. It helped the Bobcats claim the women’s team title.

McWilliams cleared 3.92 meters (12 feet, 10.25 inches), ousting sophomore teammate Anicka Newell by 7.75 inches.

“It’s real exciting to do this well as a freshman,” said McWilliams, who finished fourth for G-P at the Class 4A state meet as a senior. “Getting a ring in my first season is awesome, especially being a part of getting my seniors a ring.”
