Corsicana’s Tigers had a big day at the Class 5A state track & field meet in Austin, where Gabe Gilfillan finished fifth in the state in the pole vault and Melvin Martin took home sixth in the shot put.
Gilfillan and Martin are both seniors and were both making their first trip to the state meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas, and both had strong finishes to a big year.
Gilfillan vaulted 15 feet and six inches to finish fifth in the state, and Martin’s toss of 52 feet and 6 3/4 inches was the sixth longest.
