KINGSTON, Jamaica – Xavier Boland set a new Gibson Relays record in the pole vault after clearing 4.42m beating his two-year-old mark of 4.41m set while he was a Kingston College schoolboy.

Boland, who started attending GC Foster in January as he awaits a scholarship offer to attend Lindenwood University in September, failed to clear 4.65m which would be his personal best.

Boland cleared the new record on his first attempt as two Jamaica College vaulters Christopher Mitchell (4.00m) and Akeem Kerr (3.60m) took second and third, respectively.

This is the second record of the day so far after the Calabar High Class 3 4x100m team ran 42.65 seconds in the preliminary heats.
