LEXINGTON, Ky. – Several records, including one state record, tumbled in the KHSAA Class A Girls Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky on Saturday.
Fairview’s Morgan McIntyre, who won the Class A pole vault for the fifth straight year, set a state record with a vault of 12 feet. She broke the record of 11 feet 9 inches, set by Ballard’s Megan Zimlich in 2011.
Before the season, McIntyre said she wanted to jump 12 feet and first tried it but fell short at a regional meet last week at Leslie County.
With a state title and state record safely tucked away at 11 feet 9½ inches, she didn’t need to try for 12 feet, but did and cleared it. She then missed at 12-4.
McIntyre, a Western Kentucky University recruit, was thrilled to break the record of Zimlich, now at Arkansas.
