One of Australia’s most glamorous former Olympians Tatiana Grigorieva has revealed she is now studying to become a beauty therapist.
Few Australians will forget the blonde athletics star’s 2000 Sydney Olympics campaign where she won a silver medal in the pole vault.
Her savvy self-promotion, with a series of men’s magazine photoshoots, cemented her as one of Australia’s most recognisable athletes.
Seven years after her retirement from professional sport and modelling, the Brisbane gelato shop owner is now focussed on learning how to make others beautiful with a diploma of beauty therapy.
“I’m passionate about fitness, health and beauty and would like to open up a place where people can work on themselves from the inside out and the outside in,” she told 9 Stories.
“I know the fitness side, but just need some more qualifications.”
Since retiring in 2007, Ms Grivorieva has worked hard at building her Cafe and Gelato Milany business, which has won medals in its own right – especially her dark chocolate flavour.
“Sport teaches you the discipline and focus you need for work,” she said.
Her marriage to fellow former athlete Plamen Milanov has produced two children, a daughter, 4, and a son, 5.
She now hopes her beauty studies will provide a healthy outlet for her future in business and for her growing family.
“I hope that one day my children will take up some kind of competitive sport – be it swimming or athletics – because it’s done so much for me,” she said.
“Not just the fame element, but just the way I live my life and am able to focus my energies.”
