Gold rush: Luke Winder wins seventh national championship in pole vault as NCC takes fifth title in 10 years

It took a couple extra trimesters, but North Central College’s Luke Winder capped off his illustrious career in the pole vault in style.

After redshirting last season indoors due to a thumb injury, Winder returned as a senior to rack up an unprecedented seventh NCAA Division III national title and fourth indoor.

No pole vaulter at any level of college has accomplished either feat.

His vault of 17-4 1/2 was enough to win the national title Friday in Boston, setting the tone for the Cardinals’ fifth team championship in the past 10 seasons.
