Greeley Schools Notes: Greeley Central pole vaulter ready to keep progressing this spring

The Greeley Central track and field team has been known to have great pole vaulters.

Three years ago, Addy Neibauer, daughter of Central coach Marty Neibauer, won her third pole vault title at the Class 4A Track and Field Championships.

This year, the Wildcats won’t have a three-timer, but they might have a shot at another title when all is said and done.

Central senior Zoe Beard has become the top girls vaulter this spring, and she showed off her skills Saturday at the Eaton Invitational.

Beard tied for second place with a jump of 10 feet, 1 inch. She had tried to clear 10-7, but it didn’t work out — this time.

“I just needed to attack a little bit more,” she said after the event. “I was kind of being timid on the first two jumps. The third one would have been the jump to do it.”

Beard also ran in two relays and competed in the triple jump. She ran in the 400 relay, which took second with a time of 51.39 seconds, and the 800 sprint medley relay, which won in 1:52.37. She took fifth in the triple jump (32- 1.75), as well.
