Greenville’s Morris soars to U.S. outdoor pole vault title

America’s queen of the indoor pole vault is pretty good outdoors, too.

Greenville’s Sandi Morris, the two-time defending U.S. indoor champion, claimed her first outdoor title at the U.S.A. Track and Field Outdoor Championships Sunday in Sacramento, Calif.

Morris cleared 4.80 meters – or 15 feet, 9 inches – to best a field of 18 competitors Sunday afternoon at the Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University.
