Like other Hall of Honor nominees from his era like Ron Noesen and Jerry Fox from the Class of 2014 inductions, Bruce Barrett, Class of 1947, approached his enshrinement to the Detroit Lakes Athletic Foundation’s award with humility and humor.
“They got the wrong guy,” Barrett said.
His first thought upon getting the nomination was, “Somebody made a mistake.”
The Hall of Honor ceremony will bring back memories by location alone. The basketball gymnasium at the old Holmes Senior High where Barrett starred for the Laker cagers is in the exact location of the ceremony in the Holmes Center Ballroom.
Barrett earned eight letters during his high school career in a time when sports options were far more limited than the activities available to today’s students.
