High school girls track and field: Kaneland pole vaulter Cierra Kuipers makes strides, flies high


MAPLE PARK – A school record in the pole vault was added to Cierra Kuipers’ résumé this track and field season.

Clearing 12 feet and putting her name atop Kaneland’s records book was just one accomplishment of many for the junior, the 2017 Kane County Chronicle Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Along the way, she won three indoor invitationals and set the school indoor pole vault record of 11 feet, 3 inches. In the outdoor season, Kuipers won three more invitationals and Kane County, NIB 12 Conference and IHSA sectional individual titles en route to placing sixth in the Class 2A state meet with a mark of 11-6.
