Hillyer added to Central track and field coaching staff

PELLA — Central College has announced the addition of former Augustana College (Ill.) women’s pole vaulter Taelar Hillyer to the track and field coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.

Hillyer, a 2014 graduate, was a four-year member of the Viking track and field program, excelling in the pole vault. She qualified in the pole vault for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships three times and the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships twice in her career. She currently has the second highest vault in Augustana history at 12 feet, 2.5 inches.

“We’re really excited to have Taelar join our staff,” coach Joe Dunham said. “She’s going to bring some great experience in the pole vault.”

In her senior year alone, Hillyer was a meet champion six different times, including at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Championships.

A Bettendorf, Iowa native, Hillyer also teaches English and Language Arts in the Pella Community School District. Hillyer has been working with the Dutch since the start of the indoor season.

“She’s got a great ability to relate with the student-athletes,” Dunham said. “I think she’ll do a great job for us.”
