Holly Bleasdale targets medals at World Championships

Pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale has set her sights on a medal at this summer’s World Championships after her gold at the European Indoor Championships.

The 21-year-old, who finished sixth at the 2012 Olympics, beat Poland’s Anna Rogowska in a jump-off to claim gold.

She is now targeting a medal at August’s World Championships in Russia.

“There will be four or five girls there as well as me shooting for a medal so it will be a good competition,” Bleasdale told BBC Radio 5 live.

Bleasdale, who cleared 4.67m at the indoor event in Sweden, is happy with the way her form has improved since missing out on a podium finish at London 2012.

“I did have a slightly disappointing Olympics. Everyone thought I could win a medal and I kind of thought I could,” the British athlete admitted.

“It didn’t happen that way and I’ve made lots of changes – changed coaches, changed where I train and it’s so paid off.

“I’m going to go back to America, do another block of training then [begin] focusing on the outdoor season.

“We have the World Championships in Russia and it’ll be good to go there to try to get another medal.”
