HOME GROWN TALENT: Backyard pole vault pit lets Tunkhannock’s Yeust practice year-round

No one in the area will host a cookout this summer quite like Dalton Yeust can.

The Tunkhannock junior is looking forward to the next few months, when he’ll have more free time to be with friends made through track and field. He’ll bring them over to his house to have a barbecue, throw some music on and hang out.

They’ll also get to play a backyard game that’s tough to find anywhere else: pole vaulting.

“I have an actual bar and not a bungee,” Yeust said. “We can have a mock meet.”

Thanks to some hard work by Yeust’s dad, Clayton, the family has a full pole vault pit right at home. The unique feature gives Yeust an extra outlet to practice the event in which he repeated as District 2 Class 3A champion last week.
