HS girls’ indoor track and field Sea’s Erini Farid (9-6) wins pole vault

Notre Dame Academy and St. John Villa Academy had banner days at the CHSAA Intersectional Relay Carnival, carting home a total of nine sets of medals from the Armory in Manhattan.

St. Joseph by-the-Sea’s Erini Farid, however, was Staten Island’s top performer, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault.

The Viking senior, who also took a crack at the 7-year-old Island record of 9-9, cleared 8-6 in her first attempt. She followed suit at 9-0, and needed two vaults to post the winning mark. Farid later missed three times at 10-0.

NDA took second in the varsity 4×400 (4 minutes, 14.7 seconds) and frosh 4×800 (11:03.5).

Villa’s best finish came in the freshman 4×200, placing second in 1:58.90.
