Indian vaulter makes state with 2.90 leap

Madurai, India — Seven rural athletes, studying at St. Teresa’s Higher Secondary School, Vadakkankulam in the district, have been selected for the State-level sports meet following their stupendous performance in the divisional-level sports meet held at Kovilpatti on November 16. The students representing the division in the State-level sports meet to be held at Tiruchi during January next year are S. Vignesh (long jump), A. John Jacob (Pole Vault), R. Kenish (400 metres) and D. Aron Raja, R. Shajin, Sahaya Vinoth and C. Argret (all for 4 X 400 metre relay).

In the overall performance, the school bagged 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals and a bronze medal in the divisional-level sports meet.While Vignesh cleared 6.21 metre in the long jump (a divisional record), John Jacob overleaped 2.90 metre in the pole vault.
