Isinbayeva ‘positive’ after comeback

Pole vault world record-holder Yelena Isinbayeva eased her way back into action at the Russian Athletics Championships on Monday.

The 31-year-old has already been selected for the 2013 World Championships at the Luzhniki Stadium next month, but she believes it is important to get some competitive practice under her belt before then.

“I have very positive feelings today,” she told the press after she qualified for the finals with a jump of 4.10m. “Everything is perfect here: the great arena, excellent surface, even the weather is good. I’m looking forward to a classy performance here.”

She added: “I want to try the new surface at Luzhniki and to test my current form because I competed at too few events this season.

“I experienced some health problems that prevented me from competing at some of this season’s events. Here I just want to jump ad libitum without any particular goals as I was already pre-selected for the World Championships.”

Isinbayeva will be looking to return to winning ways in Moscow as she hasn’t picked up a medal at the last two World Championships while she was only third at the London Olympics in 2012.
