Stockton’s Chelsea Vaughan earns All-American in pole vault again

Stockton University junior Chelsea Vaughan (Southern Regional H.S.) earned the third All-American honor of her indoor track and field career by finishing eighth in the women’s pole vault at the NCAA Division III championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Friday.

Vaughan’s best jump was 3.7 meters. The top finisher in the field of 16, Cimran Vardi of MIT, won with a 4-meter jump. The top eight finishers earned All-American status.

Vaughan will begin the outdoor season next weekend.

Freshman Jared Lewis will compete today in the men’s triple jump.

Softball: The Ospreys won two games to finish their trip to Clermont, Florida, on a six-game winning streak. They beat Penn State Behrend 5-1 and then Juniata College 6-5.

Against Penn State Behrend, Victoria Conklin went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Samantha Shockey went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Dominique Dorris scored one run and drove in one. Alex Massa went 2 for 3. Brittany Ksiezopolski pitched a complete game to improve to 3-1. She allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Against Juniata, the Ospreys scored four runs in the top of the first inning, improving to 8-1 with the win.

Dorris went 2 for 4, including a double, with two runs scored and one RBI.

Danielle Lugo (Vineland) was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and two runs. Gianna Cuffari went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and one run. She also was hit by a pitch.

Hannah Bibeault (2-0) pitched 5 to earn the win. Allyson Kuhn earned her first save.

The Ospreys are off until a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham in Madison.

Baseball: The Ospreys scored four runs in the seventh inning to beat Bowdoin College 5-3 in Winter Haven, Florida.

Keith Tappert led the Ospreys, going 4 for 4, including his second home run of the season to start the rally in the seventh. Brett Solomen singled twice and scored one run. Jason Fox allowed two runs on two hits with five strikeouts to earn the win in relief. Kevin Buell pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record the save.

Stockton will play SUNY Canton at 10 a.m. today to complete its nine-game Florida trip.

Women’s tennis: The Ospreys defeated Millersville University 5-0 to pick up their third consecutive victory in Hilton Head, South Carolina, in a match that was shortened due to rain.

Stockton won the five singles matches that were completed. The final singles match and all three doubles matches were canceled.

Sam Koropchak and Sydni Fahringer (Mainland Regional) won super-tiebreakers.

Gianna Letinski (Barnegat) won 6-1, 6-1, while Scout Bauer and Brynn Buechler both won by 6-1, 6-2 scores. Buechler’s victory was her 10th in a row.
