Sri Lanka –Eighteen-year-old B Lavanan of Arunodaya College, Jaffna set a new meetrecord in the under-18 Pole Vault event in the 82nd Sir John Tarbat Senior athletics Championship, which commenced yesterday at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, Homagama.Lavanan broke the previous record of 3.71m set by R Saparamadu of AnandaCollege, Colombo in 2008.
The competition will continue today and conclude on September 30 (Sunday).Boys Under-18 Pole Vault: B Lavanan (Arunodaya College, Jaffna) 3.77m, 2 S. Eranga (Maris stella College, Negombo) 3.40m, 3 D S Dinsuha (A Ratnayake MMV, Walala) 3.30m.
