ITHACA, N.Y. – Former Ithaca College men’s track & field pole vaulter Jakob Markwardt graduated from IC in 2019 with a degree in documentary studies and production, with a minor in outdoor adventure leadership. Along his path to an undergraduate degree, Markwardt knew he did not want to enter the media industry immediately after graduation and that’s what sent him out to Oregon to fight wildfires, which he has been courageously executing since departing South Hill.
Markwardt found his way out west two summers ago and began his journey as a wildland firefighter. This summer, he has joined a hotshot crew, which are assigned to work the most challenging parts of a wildfire.
