COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior pole vaulter Joey Uhle was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon (Feb. 11). It is the third career award for the native of Powell, Ohio, who also captured the honor as a freshman and sophomore.
Uhle recorded a career-best indoor clearance of 17’10¼” to easily win the pole vault at the Air Force Team Challenge on Feb. 7, as he bettered the field by nearly 10 inches. That mark, the fourth-best clearance in Academy history, is currently ranked first in the Mountain West and eighth in the nation.
Joining Uhle on the Mountain West’s Feb. 11 list of award winners was Boise State’s Mackenzie Flannigan, who earned the MW Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week award.
The Falcons return to action this weekend, with a pair of meets. The majority of the team will remain at the Academy for the Air Force Collegiate Open on Saturday, Feb. 15, while 13 runners will travel to Ames, Iowa, for the 23rd-annual ISU Classic.
