COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force sophomore pole vaulter Joey Uhle was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today (Jan. 15). It is the second such honor for Uhle, who also claimed the league’s weekly award during the 2012 outdoor season.

Backed by a career-best clearance of 17’2¾”, Uhle won the pole vault at the Air Force All-Comers Meet on Jan. 12, leading the Falcons’ to a sweep of the top four places. Improving his indoor height by five inches, the native of Powell, Ohio, became the 13th vaulter in Academy history to clear the 17-foot barrier indoors.

He is currently ranked second in the Mountain West and 11th in the NCAA.

The sophomore shared the conference’s Jan. 15 award with New Mexico vaulter Amber Menke, who was selected as the MW Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Uhle and several of his teammates will head to Reno, Nev., this weekend (Jan. 18-19) for the Pole Vault Summit, while the rest of the squad will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the annual Nebraska adidas Classic on Saturday, Jan. 19.
