Johnson Wins Fourth Pole Vault Event of Season

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Rice sophomore McKenzie Johnson won her fourth outdoor pole vault competition of the season by tying a season-best mark of 4.10m (13-05.25) Friday afternoon at the Kansas Relays. The victory was Johnson’s third-consecutive win in as many meets and the mark ranks second in Conference USA.

Other individual standouts for the Owls on Friday were junior thrower Claire Uke and freshman jumper Daisy Ding. Uke set a PR with a 48.92m heave of the discus to place fourth and at the same time record the third-best mark in Owls history. Uke’s distance is the fourth-best performance in C-USA this year.

Ding set a PR as well by placing fourth in the triple jump at 12.60m (41-04.25).

Rice participated in four different relays, finishing second in both the distance medley relay (11:49.16) and the 4×1600 relay (20:58.95).

The Owls will finish action tomorrow at the Rock Chalk Park track facility before returning home to compete at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday at Holloway Field/Ley Track.
