KAT TOMCZAK NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a record-setting clearance in the pole vault at last weekend’s Air Force Invitational, junior Kathryn Tomczak was named the Mountain West Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week this afternoon (Jan. 30). It is the fourth indoor award – and sixth overall – for the Williamsburg, Va., native.

Tomczak became the first Air Force jumper to clear 14 feet in the indoor pole vault during a winning performance at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27. The junior recorded a career-best clearance of 14’0½” (4.28 meters) to win the Elite section of the pole vault – bettering a field that included professional vaulters by more than seven inches.
