KAT TOMCZAK NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After posting the nation’s second-best clearance in the pole vault at last week’s season-opening meet, Air Force junior Kathryn Tomczak was named the Mountain West Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week (Dec. 12). It is the third weekly indoor award (fifth overall) for the Williamsburg, Va., native.

Tomczak registered a Meet-Record clearance of 13’9¼” to win the pole vault at the Air Force Holiday Open on Friday, Dec. 8, and debut at the top of the conference leaderboard for the 2017-18 season. The junior, who leads the Mountain West by more than one foot, is also ranked second across all collegiate divisions in the nation. In addition to adding four inches to the previous Meet Record and winning the event by nearly one-and-a-half feet, Tomczak shattered the Academy’s Junior Class Record by adding nearly a foot to a mark that had remained unchanged since 2012.
