Kiwi Eliza McCartney wins pole vault title at Australian athletics championships

Eliza McCartney failed to scale the same heights as earlier in the summer but did enough to clinch the pole vault honours at the Australian athletics championships.

Olympic bronze medal-winning Kiwi McCartney cleared 4.50m to finish 20cm clear of the field at Sydney Olympic Park.

However, the 20-year-old failed in all three attempts at 4.70m.

It is five weeks since McCartney jumped a height of 4.82m at the Auckland Track Challenge, breaking her own national and Oceania records.
