Kristen Hixson takes 5th in pole vault in USATF Championships

EUGENE, Ore. — Grand Valley State graduate Kristen Hixson made her mark on the track & field world Sunday, finishing fifth in the USATF Outdoor Championships.

Hixson matched her career high of 4.5 meters (14 feet, 9 inches) to finish fifth. It matched the vault that set the NCAA Division II record at last year’s national championships.

But this one was with the best athletes in the nation.

Olympic gold medalist Jenn Suhr won with 4.82 meters.

In the steeplechase, former GVSU runner Betsy Graney took 13th (9:56.74). MSU’s Leah O’Connor was fourth (9:31.03).

In the junior steeplechase event, Hope College’s Ben Pederson finishes 16th at the USATF Junior Championships Saturday night.
