Lafayette High’s Armand Duplantis, Dutchtown High’s Leah Scott win Louisiana Gatorade awards

Lafayette High pole vault star Armand “Mondo” Duplantis received the Louisiana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year award, which was also announced Thursday. Duplantis, an LSU signee, was Gatorade’s National Boys Track & Field Athlete in 2017 and won the state honor for a third straight season.

Duplantis ended his career by setting a under-20 world record for LHS at the LHSAA’s Class 5A meet last month at LSU. Duplantis’ winning height of 19 feet, 5½ inches is the top outdoor mark ever by a high school competitor in the United States.
