With 28 pole vaulters in the prelims of the CIF State Track and Field Championships, the Santa Catalina school junior figured she’d be out on the Buchanan High infield for an extended period.

Yet, the state leader in the event was basically flawless in the trials in Clovis. She advanced as one of the 12 qualifiers into Saturday’s finals after clearing her first two jumps on her first attempts. Then, just for fun, she tried to get over 12-foot-6 and cleared that on her first effort, too.
