Last year around this time, Morgann LeLeux was busy preparing for her first shot at making the U.S. Olympic team as a pole vaulter as well as preparing to get married.
The marriage to Jacob Romero went off without a hitch, but Morgann LeLeux Romero, as she is now known, came up an inch or so short in her quest to qualify for the London Games. Romero finished fourth in the pole vault and was the alternate for the Olympic team, a replacement if one of the top three was injured or otherwise unable to compete in London.
Romero says she feels she did well in her first year as a professional pole vaulter. She’s currently waiting to see if she will get a wild card entry in her signature event at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Track & Field World Championships, schedule Aug. 5-13 in London.
