COLUMBUS – A year ago, Liberty Union’s Jimmy Rhoads came out of nowhere to qualify for the state track meet in the pole vault as a freshman and earned All-Ohio honors with an eighth-place finish with a vault of 13-feet, four inches.
What a difference a year can make. Heading into Friday’s state track and field championships, Rhoads was considered one of the favorites and he lived up to that billing, and in the process, he made it exciting.
Rhoads placed second with a vault of 15-2 to once again earn All-Ohio honors during the Division II event at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
“I improved a lot from last year, so I was expecting something good to happen,” Rhoads said. “I am really happy about that.”
